Do you, your child or your staff need to improve your creative and critical thinking skills?

40% of today’s jobs won’t exist in the next decade; educators are being challenged to produce more innovative thinkers; government is looking for new industries; and business is looking for the next generation of game changers. Where do we start to address this?

StartUp Realm focuses on skills that sit across content areas including creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration – skills crucial for developing innovators, thought leaders and entrepreneurs throughout the economy. However these skills are multifaceted and therefore difficult to teach and measure. StartUp Realm is agnostic of subject matter as it focuses on the 21st Century learning skills that can be used in a school, tertiary and corporate environment. StartUp Realm provides:

  • An Online Learning Platform for anyone interested in improving their thinking skills.
  • Tools aimed at encouraging curiosity, engaging individuals in the discovery, creation and development of ideas.
  • Resources that connect educators, business, parents and students by providing content, resources and ideas for activities.

Future of Work: Advice to the Modern Employee

I have the privilege of living and working in Wellington. I also work in Sydney. In fact, my work can take me anywhere as long as I have a decent internet connection. My work style is a reflection of the modern workforce - highly mobile, with various interests and opportunities for work - but we have to be connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However it is not an understatement to say that the forces currently influencing today's workforce will change what it means to work and live.

Which is riskier: Job or Entrepreneurship?

In June my business will be sponsoring the prize for the winning team at Teen Start-Up: Future Cities, an innovation camp for teens and tweens between the ages of 10 and 18 years. I firmly believe that every child needs the financial literacy and business skills that programs like Teen Start-Up teach. In the past, employment might have been considered secure and entrepreneurship risky, but the new reality is that there will be no such thing as a job for life.

Is the future of work self-employment and entrepreneurship?

The future is already unfolding around us. We are seeing drivers of change everywhere - in technology as more people get connected; in globalisation with the emerging economies of India and China; in changing demographics as people live longer; in increasing energy prices and even at a social level as more women enter the workforce and more men look for balance in their lives.
